In der tschadischen Hauptstadt N'Djamena kam es am heutigen Vormittag zu einer schweren Explosion in einem militärischen Munitionsdepot. Der Brand brach am Dienstagabend aus und führte zu einer Reihe heftiger Detonationen, die weit über die Stadt zu hören waren.
Die Ursache für den Ausbruch des Feuers ist bislang ungeklärt, doch deuten die Berichte auf einen Unfall hin, da keine Hinweise auf terroristische Aktivitäten vorliegen.
Anwohner wurden aufgefordert, die Gegend um das Munitionslager zu meiden. Rettungskräfte sind im Einsatz, um die Lage unter Kontrolle zu bringen und Verletzte zu versorgen.Der Tschad befindet sich in einer instabilen Region, die immer wieder von gewaltsamen Auseinandersetzungen erschüttert wird. Zuletzt kam es in der Nacht zum 28. Februar zu bewaffneten Zusammenstößen in N'Djamena, bei denen Büros des Geheimdienstes angegriffen worden sein sollen. Ob ein Zusammenhang mit der heutigen Explosion besteht, ist jedoch unklar. Die Regierung hat bislang keine Stellungnahme abgegeben. Bei der Explosion sollen 46 Menschen verletzt und 9 Personen getötet worden sein.

A serious explosion occurred this morning in a military ammunition depot in the Chadian capital N'Djamena. The fire broke out on Tuesday evening and led to a series of violent detonations that could be heard far across the city.

Une grave explosion s'est produite ce matin dans un dépôt de munitions militaires à N'Djamena, la capitale tchadienne. L'incendie s'est déclaré mardi soir et a provoqué une série de puissantes explosions qui ont pu être entendues dans toute la ville.
